The United States of America(USA) has opened the 2013 Diversity Visa Programe with a call on interested candidates to guard against fraudsters.

US Department of State visa specialist Michael Dolce said during an intercom press conference with various countries that the visa programe, which started on October 4, would close on November 5, 2011.

He said there would be 50,000 total visas available in fiscal year 2013. Mr Dolce said all entries must be submitted electronically and urgedcountries not to believe fraudsters asking them to deposit money for visas electronically.

American embassy Zambia Consular Kate McGeary said the lottery visa applications from Zambia this year increased from 2,305 in 2010 to 2,448, for 2012. For this year, among the top African countries applying for visas to America are Nigeria, Ethiopia, Egypt and Ghana.
