I trust this finds you all well!!

I would like to provide you with an update regarding our initiative on Identity Theft, Romance Scams, and Internet Predators; 

A few weeks ago Mary Leal and I were interviewed on BlogTalkRadio with Frankie Picasso on Midlife MoJo Radio in Toronto. You can listen to this 1-hour interview at; http://www.blogtalkradio.com/midlife-mojo (Featured Episode – Stolen Identity).

I just found out through my contact in Germany that there are now (2) more of my photos circulating in Romance Scams and were found on a German website. You can see these at http://www.contra-romance-scam.de/t2170f49-Henry-Robert-oder-Curtis-Brown.html (photos also attached to this email). I’m not sure where the scammers pulled these photos but in each instance the fake profiles were deleted and the site, Friendster.com, has pledged to police their site for any more misuse of my photos. 

The best we know there are now approximately (20) of my modeling and racing photos used in Romance Scams. Unfortunately, the list has grown from the original twelve pirated photos however; we are doing whatever is necessary to warn people about these fakes, the scammers, and to have the profiles deleted. This has required a lot of hard work from everyone but we are definitely seeing quantifiable success on a number of websites and especially with the cooperation and personal attention of MySpace.

With the help from what is now becoming a large team, our story is reaching national and international audiences as evidenced by the considerable amount of traffic from posts and emails. Under the watchful eye of a number of organizations and concerned individuals we are reaching many innocent and unsuspecting people that may otherwise been planned targets of scammers. Through these efforts I believe we are increasingly mitigating scammer activity in the use of my photos. 

Anti-scam organizations that are actively engaged in sending up the “red flare” and websites that now police their sites on my behalf include; Romancescams.com, Busted Scammers, Scammerclub, MySpace, Friendster.com, Internet-love-scams.org, and Match.com. Though I consider this a short list, there are many more websites that we plan to enlist and this will happen in a matter of time. The process has yet to be perfected but we are doing something very positive about this growing problem.

Thanks also to those of you for your support and help as you have unselfishly given of your time and resources to track down the scammers that are illegally using my photos...so I want to mention; Stella, Regina, Deb, Rita, Della, Mary, Sharon, Dee, Debra, Maria, Debbie, Nikkee, Janice, Sylvia, Veronica, Peaches, Haydee, Lampasew, Tom, Shannon, Sissy, Abbey, Krisy, Kenneth, Molly, Nathan, Christine, Janelle, Ryan, Sandra, Sue, Ae in the UK, Rollo in the UK, Valborg in Denmark, Veronika in Germany, and FactsAboutScammers in Switzerland. As this will likely get posted, I decided to omit last names in order to protect everyone’s privacy. But the point I make...you can see this is rapidly becoming a large group and they are no longer willing to idly watch as injustice and criminal activities take place on the Internet. Furthermore, there is an increasingly large grassroots effort of concerned people mounting the offensive to fight for our rights in protecting our identities and focus on squelching the scammers activities. 

We are becoming much more effective, many fake identities have been deleted, but we also see many new ones pop-up. Our goal is to continue on course by;
Gaining increased exposure in the US and internationally. 
Generating consumer awareness. 
Educating people concerning ID Theft, Romance Scams, and Internet Predators. 
Exposing scammers.

As humans, a first impression is what helps us judge the person on a whole. We all do it, however subconsciously.

So stop and think about this particular victim: Robert Frost

Model and racing driver, his face exploited for online matchmaking and ultimately fallen for by innocent women who found him attractive and sexy. However, as the correspondence begins to flow, he is perceived as genuine and someone to be trusted.

The unfortunate truth is that he has a wife and family and lives an existence totally unaware of the romance scam that is unfolding, dragging in further innocent victims who have fallen for his face hook line and sinker and will now go to great lengths for their new found love…money to travel half way round the world to be together, a little cash to get through a tough time after an injury or maybe to help a sick relative… regardless of the story - money will usually not be an obstacle!

While living a fairly normal life, I did not realize I had already been thrust into the underworld of scammers whose sole mission is to separate unsuspecting people from their money regardless of the collateral damage they leave in their wake. Little did I know that I was a victim of identity theft and I had become the popular "poster boy" being used to perpetrate romance scams on a global scale via the Internet.

The art of using Robert Frost’s photo, combined with the scammers know how in sweet talking their female victims until they get what they want, i.e. money, is the harsh reality of a romance scam, a crime against several victims and one that will inevitably end in heart ache.

As I am privileged enough to be writing this article about identity theft on behalf of Robert Frost I begin to fully understand the potentially devastating effect that this crime can have on all concerned. 
Thinking specifically about Robert and his own family I can only begin to imagine the turmoil that they went through in discovering the full extent and horror of his own ID theft.

Robert found out that the photos of himself were likely being used on hundreds of websites with thousands of fake identities. He was also told by the “experts” that his photos had become among the most widely used on the Internet relating to fake identities.

His face was falsely used on many more popular social networking websites including Myspace and Facebook.

I think the question remains for me and for many as to how any individual can move forward…

For Robert, he just wanted his face back and after talking this through it was agreed that if he was to see any relief from this he would have to go national.

Robert states: I also determined that I no longer wanted to be a victim but I wanted to take control of this and become outspoken and hopefully bring about change by working to inform people regarding the tactics of scammers. I also want to speak on behalf of those that are innocent that legislation needs to be enacted to protect the innocent and punish the criminals.

It has long been the myth that no-one buys from a logo, they prefer instead to buy from a face, but can we honestly think this makes any difference in business? for a face to face meeting between a  business and a potential client I can see the obvious point in that statement but what about online, how does this differ?

I took the opportunity to discuss this further with Andy Watson of WildcatSEO as we are constantly being asked for photographs for our online profiles.

We personally made the decision to use corporate ID logos instead of actual personal images and we feel for the most part this has been both the correct decision and a successful one.

The online presence of any business is always vulnerable to Identity theft, which can sometimes be compounded by the use of photographs. I am not in any way saying do not have you photograph on the Internet in connection with your business, what I am saying is take every precaution necessary to ensure that what happened to Robert Frost cannot happen to you.

In the world of online business networking, the usual head and shoulders approach to photography is unfortunately easy to manipulate, and some may be seen as an easy option for those out there who thrive on these scams.

A successful business may wish to show off its most successful assets by displaying employee images on its web site.
